  • Flickr Freebies

Flickr_free_stuffFlickr is doing EVERYTHING right.  I just got this email from Flickr saying they were giving me free stuff.  Hells yeah!

    Hi thelastminute!

You may have heard on the grapevine that we planned to
reward our dear Flickr members who bought a Pro Account in
the early days. Well, it’s true! And since you’re one of
those lovely people, here’s a little something to say YOU
    ROCK!

    1. Double what you paid for!
Your original 1 year pro account has been doubled to
2 years, and your new expiry date is Nov 8, 2006.

    2. More capacity!
Now you can upload 2 GB per month.

    3. 2 free Pro Accounts to give away to your friends!
This won’t be activated for a day or two, but when it
is, you’ll see a note on your home page telling you
       what to do.

Thank you so much for putting your money where your mouth
is and supporting us, even while we’re in beta. Your
generosity and cold, hard cash helped us get where we are
    today.

    Kind regards,
    The Flickreenies.

PS – You can check out your account history here:

  • new jack johnson video download .mpeg .mov

Spike Jonze did a video for the Pharcyde back in 96 in which the entire video was shot in reverse.  The Pharcyde performed all movements and lyrics backwards.  Then they played it back forward to the music.  All the movement is totally bizarre and it makes for an amazing video.  It was a brilliant idea and it looks pretty cool.

Jack_johnsonJack Johnson’s new music video Sitting, Waiting, Wishing, takes that same concept of shooting a video in reverse to the next level.  Watch how they made they video here.

Then watch the video here.  Enjoy.

  • Google Video Hosting

    Google_video_1

So last week I tried to upload some video to the Google video thing a few minutes after it opened and the videos have still not been "verified."  I just realized this morning (yes I’m a little slow) that this is not a video hosting service, but rather it’s a test.  Google is just testing the water to see what kind of stuff will be thrown at them when they open the door and say "send me your video".

I imagine that eventually the system will have to be user moderated (/.) for it to be feasible.  They could also use Flickr’s this may offend thing.  Of course the most efficient solution would be putting ALL their employees on the task of verifying all the PR0N that is uploaded,  cause you know that would be a great use of their time.  How they end up running their system will be very interesting. ;)

    Church of the Customer:

"In another example of shortcut marketing, McDonald’s recently launched a new campaign to pay rappers a bounty if they name-drop the Big Mac in their songs. Rappers can earn $1-5 each time their song is played on the radio."
