I knew I was seeing a classic moment when I watched this. Homer has always been meta, and the comment that a life can be collapsed into spectacle only to be forgotten by the world in a moment, or passed along at a whim was pure simpsons gold. I think the show still offers a lot, even if the glory days are long past.
