I created a little website called Metaholic that displays an OPML chalk full of juicy rss feeds. But these aren’t just any feeds. The included feeds all have some kind of “meta juice” built in. For example the most popular videos on YouTube, the most interesting photos on Flickr, or the biggest news story on Google News. You should be able to see it working in the sidebar.

Each feed has some flavor of “meta juice” built into it. Google’s servers picking out the most relevant news or Flickr’s servers selecting the most interesting images with the ‘interestingness’ algorithm. Other flavors of “meta juice” are of the collective actions of millions of bloggers and social bookmarkers as seen on Technorati and Delicious. The content of the feeds themselves is the result of the collective action of millions of people and/or algorithms.

By harnessing the power of these various aggregators you can easily find out whats going on in the world of news, blogs, and media at the click of a mouse.

I made this little thing because I wanted one stop shopping for interesting stuff from more than one memetracker. The feeds are cached for 15 minutes at a time or they’re pulled down in real time if they haven’t been accessed in the last 15 minutes.

So try it out. You’ll probably find something interesting. It ain’t pretty but it does the job.

It works because of technology created by Dave Winer and Dan MacTough.

    Very smart, Duncan.

I created something similar last week: my RSS Tool Vendor News Super Aggregator project collects feeds from and about RSS tool vendors. I included company blogs, development news feeds and relevant posts from all over the blogosphere using advanced blog search techniques. I’m very curious what you think of it.

Is it just me or is this blog user-hostile design? A little more contrast between the text and the background white would be a major step forward.

This is fantastic. Thanks for making it available.
Any chance of adding a meta travel category?
