We Eloped
Last week Dorothy and I flew to Tofino, BC, Canada and got married at the Wickaninnish Inn. 5 years ago we stayed at this hotel on our first trip together.
When we arrived in Tofino last week the forecast called for heavy rain. It poured right up until the ceremony. As the commissioner started the ceremony the sun came out, it was magic. We said our vows, exchanged rings, smooched, and just like that we are Mr. and Mrs. Rawlinson! The sun shined long enough to take some photos. The only time it didn’t rain was during the ceremony. Lucky! The ceremony itself was held in an old growth rainforest.
Dorothy has always wanted to elope and going back to the Wick Inn was exactly what she wanted. We went on our honey moon before the wedding (a road trip in our RV to Joshua Tree Nat’l Park, Lake Havasu, Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, and Las Vegas) -pics soon
We couldn’t be happier.

Summer In The 1000 Islands
I was just thinking about the summer we just spent in the 1000 Islands and I thought I’d post a few photos. Some of the photos I took below are nice DSLR images and others are just plain old cell phone pics. In the summer the river is warm and the people are even warmer. I can’t wait to go back!

We Bought a House On Wheels!
Dorothy and I bought a house on wheels!
It was quite an adventure to buy the vehicle and drive it home.
We flew from Ottawa to Toronto:
Then we jumped on a small plane to Sault Ste. Marie:
When we arrived we saw this beauty:
She’s a 2011 Winnebago View 24J built on the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chasis:
Her name is Belle.
Actually, her full name is BelleView. Weird right?! Dorothy likes the name so it’s gonna stick!
We bought her used from a great guy and it’s virtually brand new. He was the perfect guy to buy an RV from. He was meticulous about maintenance, cleaning, and he really respected the vehicle. It only has 3000 miles on it and it’s a diesel!
We had been on the hunt for this exact vehicle for months and to see it now sitting in the driveway is really exciting.
We plan to enjoy what’s left of the summer knowing Belle is ready to go for the next adventure!
Dorothy at Ganonoque Lake:
Nom Nom Nom:
We’re now getting geared up for full-time North America based nomadism. There is a loooong list of items that we need to get for our new house on wheels. We plan to add solar panels, 4g modems, Antennae, Bedding, Small Dog Crate… The list goes on and on.
Clearly Belle is quite an upgrade from our last van Gerty! We spent 11 months in Australia in our little Van Gerty which you can see below.
Duncan and our old van Gerty in Australia:
We’re excited for: concerts, festivals, parties, friends, tourist stuff, and all the amazing photographic opportunities!
The plan: GO SOUTH for the winter and HAVE FUN!!
Dorothy and I are very happy and excited for the next chapter in our lives.
Onward!

Starting
Nike’s Just Do It slogan is beyond cliché but I really like that notion. Just doing something implies that it’s simpler than you think. You can stop thinking about it and just do the thing!
I know plenty of people who get stuck and can’t start. I’ve been known to get bogged down myself. It’s an awful place and I’ve been there. Here is a little technique to quell any fear and just begin.
There is something splendid about the process of just starting. No matter how awful it feels or how bad your project is, the process of starting sets things in motion. The act of starting forces your brain into a new state. Your brain transitions into the how can “I make this better” mode instead of the counterproductive anxiety based thinking that can prevent anything from even happening.
When did we become conditioned into being passive consumers? When did we accept that all we can do is buy things and be passive? Stop that and just start.
Been thinking about a new hobby, a new business, a new project? Just freaking start.
Keep this in mind when starting: NOBODY CARES. Nobody cares about your widget or your new project as much as you do. Nobody gives a rats ass about anything. Or rather, that’s a tool to keep in mind to quell the those negative thoughts in your mind that will prevent you from creating or doing.
We tend to overestimate other people’s interest in our stuff. Consider vacation photos. Nobody cares about your vacation photos as much as you do and yet we put on elaborate slideshows thinking people will actually care. To a certain extent they do care, just not as much as you think they do.
Nobody is going to judge you or think badly of you or your creation. If they do let them! They can judge you all they want it doesn’t change the fact that you’ve created something. Also if they’ve never created anything why should you care what they think anyway? If they have created anything they’ll know what that’s all about and probably be super supportive of you.
The point is, don’t get caught up in the minutia of over-thinking and just begin. Begin now.
