This is amazing. Jay Greenberg (12 years old) has already composed five symphonies. "Talented composers might write five or six symphonies in a lifetime. Jay has written five at the age of 12."
-"Jay has been told his hearing is many times more sensitive than an
average person’s. The sounds of the city need to be shut out manually.
But Jay can’t turn off the music in his head. In fact, he told us he
often hears more than one new composition at a time."Multiple channels is what it’s been termed," says Jay. ‘That my
brain is able to control two or three different musics at the same time
–- along with the channel of everyday life.’ "

As a musician, I can tell you that this is amazing and absolutely possible. I look forward to hearing some of his compositions. Thanks for sharing about the sound sensitivity, I always thought it was “just me”.
I think this boy is the incarnation of one of these musics: Handel or Hadyn.
I know this guy personally. I’m not gonna give my real name, in case he reads this, but this kid was a complete dickhead. It’s like he lives on fucking Mars. He is not really shy like he pretends to be, he’s really obnoxious as hell. One time in the library, we were all reading and he wouldn’t stop fucking laughing, and the librarian told him multiple times to stop, and he kept laughing like a fucking chicken. He never talks about anything, and having a conversation with him is like pulling fucking teeth. When I asked him what he was eating once, trying to be nice, he said “Edible tectonics.” What a jerk.
he probably acts so different because he’s so brilliant.
If I was a super genius like this kid I’d laugh at everyone else too.
Makes you think that perhaps some very few people are able to tap into incredible talent. Look at Michangelo or Picasso. I’d like to know if there is a CD’s of “The Storm” by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra?
I don’t doubt that this kid is a genius. Writing 5 symphonies at the age of 12 is certainly an extraordinary feat. But one must also take into account that this kid has connections. He lives in New York and he is Jewish. And he’s at Julliard. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra actually commissioned this kid. On the other hand I live in Texas and I’m 17 and have written numerous orchestral pieces including a symphony and works for full orchestra and choir, but I don’t see orchestras knocking on my doorstep.
Send some of your music to the people at Julliard see what they say!
Put some of your music online.
Jay Greenberg is a musical genius. Sure there might be other kids his age that compose music, but not as fast and accurately as Jay. In the video it says that he notates all his compositions on his computer, and he does it so fast that his computer often crashes. It also mentions that his compositions come entirely composed in his head, note for note. And the fact that Jay is a musical genius explains why his social skills aren’t that great. Many musical geniuses are strictly right-brained people, whereas the ability to socialize is a left-brain activity, so it’s no wonder he seems a little strange. Here’s a website which explains more about this: http://autismcoach.com/gifted_with_learning_disabilitie.htm.
And regarding Mark’s post, I wouldn’t say Jay has connections. His musical talent has probably attracted alot of people, including people with connections. And if you want to get your music performed, I’m sure there are music professors in your high school who can help you with that, or look around for a local symphony orchestra and send the director an email. Or make a website like I did, and post samples of your works on it. Then you can pay some more popular music sites to post a link to your site. Anyway, best of luck to you.
Also, if anyone knows where I can find recordings of Jay Greenberg’s symphonies, please let me know. You can email me at IHudson@comcast.net. Thanks.

Hello. I found it very interesting to hear about someone who can tap into the musical channel. I have been for many year thinking deep about music and i consider music as an infinite channel that can be taped into. For my whole life I have been writing endless songs in my head and in the last few years it has grown worse. I can not sleep , all I hear is music and songs. I have created hundreds of compositions and symphonies, including many operas. I know every sound and time. It is as if it where written in my head. I do not have the skill to produce my music. This fact is what is causing me stress untold of. I have been playing piano since i was 6 and I am 20 now. I could create a song at any moment and have no fear about music block. This is the only thing I know. Writing a song is as easy as breathing. I always am and it is making me crazy. I dont know how to write what I hear. I hear thousands of sounds as well and write many pieces in my head. I have many operas that almost make me cry because they were so beautiful but they were lost many years ago due to the fact that I dont know how to write my music. I hear sounds that I have no clue to produce as physical notes. I can not stop the music in my mind. I am glad to hear someone who is taking the right steps to get that music out because it really drives one mad if they can not. Music basicly rules my mind now. I hope one day I can get it out and have peace.
…and he is jewish…
What your point Roland..oh unrecognized genius?
where is it’s music?; perhaps i’m just missing something… why a digital representation of it’s likeness without a sample of the sounds it makes?
I couldnt find any online when i created this post.
I’m sure there is some online by now…
Look, this kids a genius, and all you haters that put him down are jealous, I didn’t want this to sound rude, because I’m a nice guy, also a pianist and a composer, that will be attending Julliard next year and when I hear of a twelve year old thats already written five full length symphonies, it blows my mind because I know how difficult it is to write some times.Any ways blue Jays definently not under rated.
I, as a composer, stand in awe of Mr. Greenberg’s accomplishments. It sounds like jealousy may have infected many other people’s views. But, one must remember, his gift is a double-edged sword. Do not get me wrong, this is not a case of sour grapes, I’ve won my share of national awards, but with what Jay has already accomplished at such a young age, everything might soon feel anti-climatic. Another point: though my music, and most others’, may mature more slowly; when it finally reaches “adulthood” it will have less of an air of superficiality. Most of the works of prodigies have this quality.
What makes Mozart, particularly the operas, stand apart was that he had an acute perception of the social tendencies of his society and of relationships, both platonic and otherwise. Mendlessohn and Saint-Saens wil not stand the test of time due to this(although I admit, Saint-Saens is one of my all-time favorites). From what it seems; Mr. Greenberg also seems to lack this perception. I do not deny he writes great music. I look forward to hearing more of it and meeting him this coming academic year.
So to everyone, I say this, you needn’t get green in the eyes or ears when hearing or hearing of Jay’s masterpieces. When you reach adulthood, you will be capable of a far greater spectrum of emotion and color than the prodigies.
First, I would like to state that the majority of these comments seem to be others bragging about their talents. You have no proof to back up your claims, try to make your self believable. While I may not be a composer, I am a talented musician. It does not take a genius to play or compose music. I am not saying that this “blue Jay” is not a talented atrist, I am just saying that he may not be a genius after all. As of now, I am attending one of the top magnet high schools in the nation; this school is also founded on the basis of preforming arts. You have no idea the talent that walks though these doors. People of all cultures learn there, as well as impart their wisdom onto others.
I strongly believe that this boy is an intelligent person, but you cannot base that on his musical abilities.
Blue is known for his compositions while being a youth. Both my brother and I are freaking geniuses. While I am a lazy fag who is blessed with the ability to learn at an astounding rate, my brother works his ass off and earns scolarships and national titles. I salute Jay for working hard and achieving what he wants, the title of genius has just been stigmatized on him by those that idolize what the cannot understand.
This all sounded so amazing. It just seem so surreal that there are actually people out there that can write music starting at the age of two. It sounded like it came right out of a movie. I believe it can happen, I mean anything can happen, but it’s like Wow, an entire orchestra just playing in his head waiting for him to just write it down. And from all these other comments there seem to be a lot more geniuses out there, undiscovered. It sort of make me feel so… ordinary.
