Enchanted Steamscape
A surreal and dreamy scene unfolds as dawn breaks over the ethereal landscape of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The first light of day casts a golden hue upon the mineral-rich terraces, highlighting the delicate balance of nature and geology. Steam rises gracefully from the hot springs, creating a mystical atmosphere that contrasts with the stark silhouettes of dead trees scattered throughout the scene. The otherworldly landscape evokes a sense of tranquility and solitude, as if time has stood still to preserve this incredible display of Earth’s natural wonders. An invitation to explore and appreciate the unique beauty and geological formations that make Mammoth Hot Springs a must-see destination for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. https://Duncan.co/enchanted-steamscape 5DSR, 5yZ5jpR42WKmUpUcgMmfZ9LmnW3tELwQ1Qs8gAXA1e7e, adventure, atmospheric, bc1qqce67sss5r6688xns4jcutwrzur248fsvddw8j, Canon, Canon EOS 5DSR, dawn, dead trees, destination, Duncan Rawlinson, Duncan Rawlinson Photo, Duncan Rawlinson Photography, Duncan.co, Early morning, Eerie, Enchanted Steamscape, exploration, fog, Geological Features, geological formations, geology, geothermal, golden light, Hot springs, https://Duncan.co, hydrothermal, Landscape, limestone, mammoth hot springs, mineral deposits, mist, morning light, mysterious, National Park, Natural beauty, natural phenomenon, Nature, Otherworldly, outdoors, Photo by Duncan Rawlinson, picturesque, pristine, scenic, Shot With Canon EOS 5DSR, silhouettes, solitude, steaming, sulfur, Summer Trip 2018, Summer-Trip-2018, surreal, terraces, thermal, thermophiles, tranquil, Travel, travertine, United States of America, untouched, wilderness, Wonders, Wyoming, Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park Wyoming United States Of America, Yellowstone-National-Park-Wyoming-United-States-Of-America

It wasn’t enough because my memory of us was so full of creation and mischief. As a result this is the year I brought out my first art piece. I put it where we always wanted our work; out by the trash fence in the “quiet” All this done off the books in the dark of the night just as a middle finger to the placement team that always promised us deep playa and always resinded their word because “your work was too good”, but I needed to be able to whisper into the night to you, “I fuckin got em’ for us tigre” I hope that you have found the quiet we always looked for with art together. You taught me that nothing is impossible with the help of friends and I couldn’t have done it without this community of salty dogs. Tigre, you should have been here to dance with me under the lights and I miss you more than ever but I’m just getting started and have so much more to do before the lights finally go out for good. Oh ya, the name of the piece is city limits I couldn’t have done it without @theywire coming up with the most immaculate of lighting, and a special thank you to @hoboerotic and @thea.rae for running to reno in the middle of the night to dig telephone poles out of @lostmachineandy bone yard. The installation creates a minimalist, abstract visual narrative that defies the ubiquity of hi-res displays. BitCube embraces the limitations of a low-res medium and encourages viewers to find beauty in simplicity. The installation’s audio-reactive capabilities reflect the collective heartbeat of the Burning Man community. Light patterns range from abstract shapes to minimalist representations of life and energy, resonating with Burning Man’s spirit of creativity, self-expression, and community in a stripped-down interplay of light, space, and perception. Contact: [email protected] Temple Anam Cara by A Celtic Light and Obsydian Studios creation from: San Francisco, CA year: 2023 Anam Cara is an ancient Celtic phrase referring to the concept of the “soul friend” in spirituality. Temple Anam Cara intertwines a Celtic Tree of Life upon an Aztec Step Pyramid, an homage to the ancestral heritages of our co-creators. The shared belief in this concept has inspired the creation of this sculpture. We recognize that the path of wisdom is woven by countless cultures and civilizations, each offering unique insights into the nature of existence – to celebrate the shared connections of our Soul Friends that have guided and inspired deeper connections to the universe’s beauty. At the heart of Temple Anam Cara lies a deep belief in the unity of love, light, and consciousness—a recognition that all ancient traditions converge in their quest for higher truth. The base sanctuary is adorned by murals, mirrors and LEDs to welcome all to offered experiences. This sculpture is a creation in honor of the indigenous wisdom embraced by the creators of Temple Anam Cara, a shared expression of love of community, life and earth. www.templeanamcara.com URL: https://obsydianstudios.com/ Contact: [email protected] Temple Anam Cara by A Celtic Light and Obsydian Studios creation from: San Francisco, CA year: 2023 Anam Cara is an ancient Celtic phrase referring to the concept of the “soul friend” in spirituality. Expanse by: Laurence Renzo Verbeck from: San Francisco, CA year: 2023 Expanse takes Vitruvian Man as a starting point, and subverts it. The figure is female, no longer bound by geometry; the arms, morphing to wings, extend beyond. She is forward of, and greater than the circle, growing out of the ring into something other. New and limitless experience. Geometry is the basis of art and language, it is the starting point of who we are as a species. But it is not the end of who we are. Expanse is a reminder that our solace and burgeoning reside in both the honoring and challenging of geometry. That we live best when we become the ground where rigidity and expansion meet and resolve. Emergency Services A Message To Sensationalist Media – I was invited into a nice camp and we had a discussion about how the news media was portyaing the burn in the outside world. The event was being portrayed as some kind of disaster when the reality on the ground couldn’t have been farther from it. So these burners had a message to the media generating sensationalist clickbait. Burners Hold Hands as they Cross the Street This wonderful person gave me a hug and was very nice. Cascade – When you get your vehicle stuck in the middle of an intersection it makes it harder for people doing actual work to get around. This causes a cascade of issues. Heavy equipment can’t be positioned and that slows or stops other stuff from happening and so on down the line. I got to chat with some really nice folks at the Cactus of Life chairs. This was the only time during the burn that I sat down and didn’t actually do anything. Every other moment of the burn I was either shooting or meeting with people or doing camp stuff. It was a real nice break. Two of the people chatting here realized they both play and sign Portuguese music. What are the odds?! Relationships, money, work, living situations, and mental and physical health can lift us as much as pull us down. Our supports, or ball and chains, often are not who or what we thought they would be. The steel framed huts present solar panels at an ideal angle to the sun. At night they bathe in soft yellow light reminiscent of the sunlight collected all day. . Although they only inhabit temporary aquatic habitats, they have been here for millions of years floating on their backs and undulating through life. “Of a Temporary Nature” presents an arial flotilla of large fairy shrimp wind sock sculptures that hopefully entice participants to wonder and draw nearer to their intriguing yet simple forms. Temporary water gives rise to the fairy shrimp and Black Rock City gives rise to the Burner. We are all of a temporary nature. The provocation dares participants to defy with a boogie, shuffle, or strut, and perhaps even gather together into a sweaty, rhythmic rebellion. Ground mounted spotlights cast enlarged silhouettes of dancers up onto the letters, broadcasting the disobedience across the playa. Crowds thus magnify their energy, sending out ripples of mischievous joy, and luring in reinforcements. Approaching reveals smaller text on each letter, a true story of someone’s collision with a rule and the consequences: banishment, termination, expulsion, or incarceration. If the tincture of joy and grief give way to a desire for restorative justice, then Over Ruled’s goal is fulfilled. In 2022, Ursa Minor, a 13-foot tall sculpture debuted on playa. Inspired by Polaris, the work’s glowing and multi-paneled infinity-mirrored body reminds us to “Look Up.” In 2023 Ursa Minor will return, but this time with her big sister. Standing over three stories tall, Ursa Major’s hollow body is filled with glowing infinity mirrors, each reflecting mosaic drawings of extinct animals from the past 12 months. The pair, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, stand in solidarity. Ursa Minor in hope, looking up. Ursa Major, as a cathedral and tomb, to species lost. The piece is very industrial in appearance with the sheer steel facade and plastic bubbling light fixtures, and so, the elements of nature are represented by the gradual shift in color of the light and the ever persistent shrieks and thumps of the sound. Just like the vibrations of life, this sculpture’s life force will pulse through it in a slow and melodic manner. The piece, although beautiful during the day, is dormant, only coming to life as the sun sets each night. The Mexican traditional Tree of Life and the iconic cactus come together as one. Here all are welcome to see themselves as they are, no prejudice. By doing so, all can share a better version of their self with the world. The first symbol comes from the Mexican artisan tradition of the “Tree of Life.” Made of clay, this tree is adorned with many figures related to different themes such as the sun and the moon. The second symbol is a cactus, the desert plant that survives harsh conditions and welcomes all beings who come to find life. It encourages visitors to contemplate the sacrifices made by these individuals and the significance of community, support, and dedication. This installation, composed of a cluster of anti-tank hedgehogs, forms an abstract figure that evokes both an animal hedgehog and a looming thundercloud, which often carries a foreboding threat. For Ukrainians, these anti-tank hedgehogs symbolize protection and unity. During the early days of the war, ordinary Ukrainians created thousands of hedgehogs from three sections of iron I-beams welded together to safeguard their communities. Inside the Temple, visitors can uncover stories of war victims who dreamt of attending Burning Man and pay tribute to the thousands of courageous and talented individuals the Ukrainian creative community lost due to the war. Through this installation, the artists seek to express gratitude for those who lost their lives defending their homeland and those who continue to stand guard. The Hedgehog Temple represents hope and resilience, reminding us that the human spirit can triumph even in the darkest times. Its wings are hinged so that they flap, propelled by the wind or by participants operating a lever. 38,000 LEDs cover its surface. As speakers play classical and classic pop music, images choreographed to each section are displayed on the LEDs. The structure of the butterfly is bent aluminum tubing. Aluminum strips are across it, onto which are glued LED strips. Each wing has a front-to-back axle around which the wing pivots. These axles are angled so that the front edges of the wings are higher than the rear edges. This allows a gust of wind to push the outer edges of the wings upward. They come down when the gust abates. Thus the wings flap even when there are no participants move them manually. Approximately 38,000 full-color, computer-controlled LEDs cover the bottom sides of each wing, surround the body, and run along each antenna and leg. These are controlled by several computers. The four speakers surrounding the butterfly are disguised as giant flower pots with LED flowers growing out of them. The flower are touch-sensitive, changing their animations in response to a visitor’s attentions. A group of dedicated photographers, they employ the age-old technique of pinhole photography to capture the essence of the festival. Their choice of equipment is fascinating: they use 12 cameras made from 50-gallon cardboard barrels, designed to expose 30 x 40-inch sheets of gelatin silver paper. In the midst of the desert, they’ve set up a makeshift darkroom within a shipping container. Each year, they produce about a hundred photos, offering a unique, almost ethereal view of the festivities, which are then showcased around the playa. Black Rock City, Nevada, undergoes a magical transformation each summer. Thousands flock to this barren desert, turning it into a vibrant hub for artists, dancers, and free spirits. Among them is the Pinhole Project team. Originating from the simple desire of four festival-goers in 1999, this initiative has since evolved in both its technical prowess and its role in the Burning Man community. What makes pinhole photography so compelling, especially in such a dynamic environment, is its ability to capture a unique stillness amidst chaos. For many, it answers questions about the nature of documenting experiences at Burning Man. The overarching goal of the Pinhole Project? To give attendees a different lens through which to view the raw creativity and radical self-expression that defines this iconic event. https://pinholeproject.org/ Since its inception in 1999, the Pinhole Project has been a standout presence at Burning Man.
