The last direct sun of the day reaches a tall wooden house built on its own rock islet in the St. Lawrence River, in this photograph by Duncan Rawlinson. The house takes up nearly the whole island, a narrow three-storey build with a small cupola on top, and a boat is tied to the dock at its base. A few trees share the rock and lean out over the water. Beds of bulrushes stand in the shallows between the camera and the island, with the reed line drawn across the middle of the frame. The sky is hazy and pale, and the river barely moves.
