I just read your interesting article in the NYT on Earthquake Country … Bridge. In the article you mention that the epicenter of the 1906 quake was “near San Francisco”. That’s not really correct. It was near Olema up by Point Reyes, some 40-50 mi from downtown SF. That is comparable to the distance from NYC to Bridgeport or New Haven CN. A more accurate point is that the epicenters of large earthquakes can be far from urban centers and still cause devastating damage.
