Fog Drifting Through the Islands

Fog Drifting Through the Islands

An aerial photograph by Duncan Rawlinson, made as morning fog drifted across the channels of the 1000 Islands. The black and white treatment reduces the scene to tone: dark open water, pale fog, and the treed outlines of the islands. A single small boat cuts a wake through the middle of the frame, the only thing moving in the picture. Cottages and docks line the near shore at the left while the far shoreline sits in clear light beyond the fog. The bare trees date the moment to the shoulder season, after ice-out but before leaves. St. Lawrence River, Ontario, Canada.
